  Broad range of viral, bacterial and fungal pathogens, including encephalitis viruses (VEE, EEE, WEE, JE, WN), influenza viruses, rabies virus, Francisella tularensis, Burkholderia spp., Yersinia pestis, and Coccidioides immitis.
 
 
     
 

The Animal Models Core develops and characterizes animal models of bacterial, viral and fungal diseases. Established animal models, biocontainment facilities and personnel are available to partner with qualified investigators, organizations and companies with particular interest in supporting efforts to evaluate vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics. The facility operates under the auspices of the Rocky Mountain Regional Center of Excellence for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Disease Research.

Biosafety Level-2 and -3 facilities and expertise are available to conduct pathogen exposures by several routes (including aerosol, intranasal, arthropod-borne and direct injection) are the. While rodent species are dominant, a broad range of large domestic animals and wildlife have been included in research protocols supported
by the core.
