Eckstein Diagnostics, Incorporated – Founded in 2008, Eckstein Diagnostics specializes in the development of diagnostics for infectious diseases in animals and humans. Eckstein Diagnostics is committed to provide the market with innovative, research-driven solution towards diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. Both founders serve the company at the executive level as President/CEO (Dr. Eckstein) and as Vice-President/CFO (Dr. Inamine). Together they head the Research and Development of the anticipated product described below. Mr. Karl W. Conrad – the owner of several previous and current businesses in Colorado, Arizona, and Germany – advises Eckstein Diagnostics on Marketing and Business Operations.

Based on the filed Patent Application on the identification of bacterial species and subspecies using lipids the diagnostic tests will resemble the usage of pathogen-specific lipids in indirect detection of pathogens of interest through a new type of serological tests. Furthermore, Eckstein Diagnostics is developing diagnostic techniques to detect directly pathogens from tissues and fluids through mass spectrometry. The major focus is on two bacterial and one eukaryotic pathogen involved in one animal and four human diseases: Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Johne’s disease in cattle and sheep; Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in humans), Burkholderia pseudomallei (melioidosis in humans), and Plasmodium ssp. (malaria in humans).

A Lipid-ELISA for Johne’s disease was designed and final testing for obtaining the license is in progress and it is anticipated to obtain the license in 2009. In addition, several licenses will be obtained in 2008 for the sale of this test in Germany, The Netherlands, Great Britain, and Ireland. It is anticipated to obtain licenses for Australia, New Zealand, and Canada as well.
